Here are some quick statistics for Hillsborough County Real Estate (Tampa is in Hillsborough in case you didn't know).

Active Single Family Homes	10093
SFH under $100,000	828
SFH between $100k-$500k	7901
SFH between $500k-$999k	943
SFH Greater than $1 Million	421

So it looks like the sweet spot is the 100-500k.  The majority of the sub $100k homes have been gobbled up but there still are a few.  Hopefully you will be able to use this information to better help you in your future searches for real estate.
